Eastern Michigan University Head Men’s Basketball Coach Stan Heath has announced the upcoming 2021-22 schedule, Friday, Aug. 27. The Eagles host 15 games in the friendly confines of the Convocation Center, while playing another action-packed non-conference schedule that includes two Big Ten Conference squads and one Big East Conference foe.
“We have a very challenging schedule with two Big Ten teams and a Big East opponent,” Heath said. “We also have several good home and road games that gives our young team great experiences. I’m sure our fans will be happy and I know we will have battle scars entering into MAC play.”
The campaign kicks off with a trip to Bloomington, Ind. to challenge the Hoosiers of Indiana University Tuesday, Nov. 9. The game against IU will begin the 125th season of Eastern Michigan men’s basketball and Heath’s first year at the helm of the program. Then, the Green and White return home to Ypsilanti to host Illinois State University Friday, Nov. 12 at 6 p.m. before hitting the road to visit Northern Kentucky University, Nov. 18, to start DePaul’s Blue Demon Classic. The Eagles continue their road stint in East Lansing, Mich. to take on the Spartans of Michigan State University, Nov. 20. EMU will continue the Classic with a home match-up against Western Illinois University, Nov. 24, before finishing the tournament at host DePaul University, Nov. 28.
As the calendar turns to December, the Eagles take a trip out west to take on the University of California San Diego, Dec. 2. After challenging the Tritons, Eastern Michigan returns to the Convo for three-straight home games. The Green and White kicks off the homestand with Division II opponent Northwood University, Dec. 5, before hosting Niagara University and Florida International University, Dec. 8 and Dec. 11, respectively. EMU’s non-conference slate wraps up with a trip to Valparaiso University, Dec. 20.
Eastern Michigan’s 20-game Mid-American Conference slate kicks off against Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, Dec. 28. EMU will meet the University at Buffalo, Jan. 1, inside the Convo. The Eagles’ home conference schedule is highlighted by two doubleheaders with the Eastern women, coming Jan. 8 and Feb. 12.
EMU will play nine MAC opponents twice in a home-and-home format, while squaring off with Bowling Green State University and the University of Toledo once. The Eagles will take on the Falcons on the road, Jan. 25, and host the Rockets, Feb. 1.
The quarterfinal round of the MAC Tournament is scheduled for Thursday, March 10, at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, Ohio. The MAC semifinals will take place on Friday, March 11, with the Championship on Saturday, March 12.
