Women’s Basketball Releases 2021-22 Non-Conference Schedule – Duquesne University – Official Athletic Site

PITTSBURGH – A renewal of the annual “City Game” plus an additional home game vs. Penn State highlight the Duquesne women’s basketball non-conference schedule released today.

The Dukes will play eight of their 13 non-conference games at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse, including a meeting against Pitt on Saturday, Nov. 20. DU will also host Lafayette, Akron, Canisius, Temple, Saint Francis U, Penn State and Cornell in the newly-renovated facility.

Duquesne will visit UCF, Tulsa, Longwood, Siena and Kent State in non-league play.

“We are very excited to announce our non-conference schedule,” said ninth-year Duquesne head coach Dan Burt. “The quality of our opponents is outstanding. The strength of our opponents will help us as we prepared for the Atlantic 10 Conference season.”

Duquesne will open with a two-game road trip that will take them to Orlando, Florida and Tulsa, Oklahoma to face American Athletic Conference foes UCF (Nov. 9) and Tulsa (Nov. 11).

The Dukes will play their home-opener at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse on Sunday, Nov. 14 when they welcome Lafayette.

The team will travel to Farmville, Virginia for their first-ever meeting against Longwood (Nov. 17), before returning home for the City Game against Pitt.

Last season marked the first time since 1982-83 that the City Game was not played. Although the Panthers hold the all-time series edge with 23 wins in 40 contests, the Dukes have enjoyed recent success in the City Game by taking nine of the past 11 meetings.

Following the City Game, the Dukes will host Akron on Nov. 23 and then travel to Albany, N.Y. for their first meeting with Siena since 2004 on Nov. 27.

DU returns home for contests against Canisius (Dec. 1) and former A-10 member Temple (Dec. 5). The Canisius game will be part of a doubleheader with the Duquesne men’s team taking on Bowling Green in the nightcap.

Duquesne will play its final non-conference road game at Kent State on Dec. 8, before closing out the calendar year with a trio of home games; Dec. 11 vs. Saint Francis U (as the second half of a men’s/women’s doubleheader with the DU men facing New Hampshire in the opener), Dec. 18 vs. Penn State and Dec. 21 vs. Cornell.

This is just the second time in 16 years that the Dukes will be playing Big Ten member Penn State. It will also be the Nittany Lions’ first visit to Duquesne since November of 2005.

The complete 2021-22 Atlantic 10 Conference schedule will be released at a later date.
