Chris Beard has dominated in the portal since taking over the Texas Longhorns basketball program.

And now Beard has maintained the momentum for the program by picking up a commitment from five-star 2022 Lewisville iSchool Academy guard Arterio Morris.

The 6-foot-3 ultra athletic guard made an official visit to Texas on June 14, and that was his lone summer visit.

Morris becomes the first five-star guard to pick Texas since Andrew Jones in the 2016 class. Morris is also the first five-star point guard commit since Myck Kabongo in the 2011 class.

The Texas Longhorns beat out Kansas, Florida, Georgia and Memphis for the one-time Tigers verbal.

Morris has starred on the AAU circuit in the spring and summer playing for Dallas Showtyme Elite. The blend of elite speed, ability to finish in traffic and improved perimeter consistency places Morris among the nation’s best. The Texas Longhorns staff has been front and center at Morris’ games ever since the live evaluation period began.

Morris led Dallas Kimball to the 5A state championship game as a junior. The point guard averaged 23.1 points, 6.5 assists, 6.3 rebounds, 3.3 steals and 2.2 blocks per game. As a result, Morris took home all-state honors and was named the Dallas Morning News Player of the Year.

The explosive guard will play his senior season at iSchool Academy with five-star guard Keyonte George. Similarly, George is a lean to the Texas Longhorns following June visits to Baylor, Kansas and Oklahoma State.

The Texas Longhorns are also targeting a number of other prospects in the 2022 class. Included in those are frontcourt five-star North Little Rock (Ark.) center Kel’el Ware, Los Angeles (Calif.) Windward School PF Kijani Wright and Prolific Prep (Calif.) PF Yohan Traore. Backcourt targets include Richardson’s Cason Wallace, Coppell’s Anthony Black and Rowan Brumbaugh of Northfield Mount Hermon in Northfield, Mass.

Morris is the first commit in Texas’ 2022 class.
