PEORIA (HOI) — A local youth outreach organization hosted a special kids’ basketball clinic Saturday morning to help encourage safety and positivity.
Masters of the Simple held its launch party, starting with a morning of hoops at the George Washington Carver Community Center.
Kids aged six to 14 hit the hardwood and learned some important lessons along the way.
Founder Jonathan Tate said the group hosts events like these to reach out to kids and act as a positive driving force.
He says other Masters of the Simple events are in the works, like bowling, concerts, trips to the skating rink, and more.
“Violence has taken an upbeat since the pandemic, and we want to reach them early and let them know there are other avenues. Other ways, there are other things that you can do with your time, and absolutely be a pillar in your community – be a positive force and not a negative force,” Tate said.
Earlier Saturday evening after the clinic, Masters of the Simple hosted a free concert with food, drinks and several DJs.
Tate said he hopes the organization can promote morals, values, hard work and having fun.
