Women’s Basketball Announces Non-Conference Schedule – RIchmond Spiders Athletic

RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond women’s basketball team announced its full 2021-22 non-conference schedule Thursday.  The Spiders non-conference season features 13 matchups including games against mid-major powerhouses and in-state rivals.

“First and foremost, we are excited to have a full schedule to look forward to,” said head coach Aaron Roussell, who is entering his third season at Richmond. “This has been a tough 17 months, but returning to Robins Center with our incredible fanbase supporting us again has us especially eager for this season to begin. I think this will be the strongest the A-10 has been in many years, and we need to be prepared for a heightened level of play. This non-conference slate will do that for us. Our group will be battle tested early and often. We have a lot of talent back, and we’re excited for what is ahead.”

The Spiders will open the 2021-22 season on November 9 at the Robins Center against Charlotte from Conference USA, kicking off a season-long celebration of 50 seasons of basketball at the Robins Center.

Following a visit to Hampton on November 13, Richmond returns to the Robins Center for a two-game homestand. UR will host Elon on November 18 and UMBC on November 21.

Richmond’s Thanksgiving week trip will be a short one, as the Spiders will head west on I-64 to compete at the Cavalier Classic in Charlottesville, Va. The Spiders will open play at the event on November 26 against an opponent yet to be determined and then take on Virginia on November 28 in the first meeting between the teams since 2016.

The Spiders will host Maryland-Eastern Shore on December 1 before visiting Ohio on December 4 and welcoming William & Mary to the Robins Center on December 12.

Richmond’s final three games before winter break will be away from the Robins Center, as the Spiders will travel to Longwood on December 15 and then head to Boca Raton, Fla. for the FAU Holiday Classic. Richmond will play two games at the event, on December 19 and 20. One will be against FAU and the other will be against an opponent yet to be determined.

Richmond will conclude its non-conference scheduled on December 29 with a home game against Coppin State.

UR’s Atlantic 10 schedule will be released in September. Tip-off times and broadcast information for all games will be released at a later date.

The 2021-22 Spiders return their seven leading scorers from last season’s 13-9 team, including A-10 All-Conference selection Kate Klimkiewicz and A-10 Rookie of the Year Addie Budnik. Season tickets for the women’s basketball season are now available for as low as $25 by calling 1-877-SPIDER1 or visiting https://spides.us/2122-WBBSZN.
